Dr. Miriam Nakanwagi

Miriam Nakanwagi is a medical doctor with a Master of Public Health and additional training in advanced field epidemiology. She is current program manager for the International Paediatric HIV Symposium for Africa (IPHASA).
Miriam has over 15 years of professional experience in HIV management including patient care and treatment, programming and research in resource-limited settings. She has previously served as a program officer for Paediatric HIV care and treatment at the AIDS Control Program, Ministry of Health, Uganda. She also provided technical consultancy services to UNICEF and UNAIDS Uganda Country Offices on Paediatric HIV care and treatment. She has authored over 10 peer-reviewed articles on HIV and related public health topics. Her research interests are in adolescent and young people’s health, and maternal and child health. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Her doctoral research focuses on risk factors for cardiometabolic disease among young people with and without HIV in Uganda, with the aim of informing tailored interventions for this demographic in similar settings.
